Quick and easy repairs for your surfboard: Easy tips to repair your surfboard no matter where you are
Surely it has happened more than once that the surfboard suffers a blow away from home. Sometimes it is essential to fix this damage even if it is temporary, minimum so that your surfing session is not ruined. As we know, the urgency of the surfer is to return to the water as soon as possible, but doing it with a dented board is harmful to it; the foam will get wet, so the board will weigh more and it will be more likely to suffer other damages such as losing its original shape and therefore the sliding will not be the same.

If it has happened to you, and if it is not likely to happen at any time, we share some tips so you can get out of this emergency.

Stickers

While stickers cannot be considered a true solution, they can be helpful as a quick, last-minute resource. Of course, you have to keep in mind that these stickers must be thick and adhere well to the table. Use them only if you are traveling, the damage is very small and you do not want to ruin your trip and lose the waves.

Resin UV-Cure

If the board surfed a crack or small hit you can use UV-Cure as Solarez. It is a polyester or epoxy resin paste. What this does is fill the hole and create a sheet that prevents the passage of water. It comes with a sandpaper so you can leave the surface smooth. It is not recommended to use it for stronger blows or large holes.

To apply this product you must first dry the board well, to make it faster you can put it in the sun. Make sure you remove chips and clean it. Use scissors or a cutter to remove the edges of the damaged area, sand it so that the resin will grip better. Use the resin according to the material of your board (polyester or epoxy). If you have more time, you can add a pigment so that the color matches that of your table. Some people apply some tape around to prevent the resin from expanding on the rest of the board. It only serves to delimit while you do the work and then you have to withdraw it. If you used Solarez, leave the board to dry in the sun for 10 minutes. Now the only thing left to do is sanding the resin. Do it gently until the surface is smooth.

Never use wax or tape

Although the wax is very important for surfers because it allows having a good grip on the board, it is not ideal to try to cover a dent or hole with it. Also, if you apply wax and then want to use resin, it will not be able to adhere. Then you would have to cut a little foam that came in contact with it and the work will only be more complicated. It is also not advisable to use adhesive tape to cover the dent.
